Peat on Earth

Peat on Earth – Ten Spoken Word Films & Exhibition (Malaysia & UK)

I led the Peat on Earth project as Project Lead Partner, videographer, editor, and exhibition designer. This UK-Malaysia collaboration produced ten spoken word films and an accompanying exhibition, supported by the British Council’s Culture through Connections Grant 2024/2025 and co-produced with Ben Horrigan of Studio 91 Media Ltd. Featured poets include Matt Sowerby (UK) and Kimchi Lai (Malaysia).

Habitat Immersions

The films were created through two-day habitat immersions: the UK team at Foulshaw Moss Nature Reserve and the Malaysian team at Kuala Langat North Forest Reserve. The exhibition was designed for youth audiences, aiming to inspire the next generation of nature advocates.

In Malaysia, Kimchi Lai wrote her poems, and I edited the footage to produce five 2-minute films: Reserved Forest (Intro), I See it in Hands (People/Folklore), Daun Kulim (Open Topic), On Swamp and Solace (Nature), and Reading (Climate). The UK films were: Foulshaw Moss (Intro), Boggart (People/Folklore), Jamie (Open Topic), Streaming (Nature), and Offering (Climate).

Exhibitions

The exhibition premiered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (August 9–10, 2025), then moved to Manchester, UK (September 20–21, 2025), before returning to Selangor, Malaysia (October 6–11, 2025). Peat on Earth combines spoken word, environmental storytelling, and immersive filmmaking to engage audiences in Malaysia and the UK with peatland conservation, climate awareness, and cultural exchange.
