I’m a documentary producer-director and journalist with more than three decades of experience across print, online and broadcast media. I edit videos and articles, create website content, and provide production fixing services in Malaysia.
The stories are about overlooked people, communities and places — stories that inform, spark conversation and inspire change.
My career began as a feature reporter for one of Malaysia’s mainstream news publications. Then, I moved behind the scenes into television production as a line producer. I worked my way up to senior producer, taking on new roles, learning from every project, and gaining valuable experience from the many people I’ve had the fortune to work with at local and regional media organisations.
I earned my director stripes by pitching stories through Open Calls and joining industry mentorship programmes. In 2006, Discovery Channel (Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific) selected me as one of its First Time Filmmakers for Restoring Merdeka. In 2012, Legs Not Required earned me a place among 15 European and Asian directors at the Eurasia-Pacific Documentary Training programme in Paju Book City, South Korea.
Factual TV
Striking out on my own so I could pursue challenging projects, I established “Factual TV” in 2009 as the creative home for my documentary and factual work.
Factual TV refers to non-fiction television programming that documents real-life events, actual people and authentic situations rather than scripted, fictional stories.
Through commissioned documentary and factual projects, I collaborate with regional organisations and broadcasters, as well as production companies and foreign producers requiring production support and fixing services in Malaysia.
Through grant-supported projects, I explore human-interest stories spanning the environment, built and intangible heritage, art and culture, and local communities.
Jigsaw Puzzle
I enjoy my current role as a director and producer. It allows me to work closely with clients, crew and post-production teams, be involved in the organisation and problem-solving, and see each piece come together — like a jigsaw puzzle — from the initial idea to the finished story.
Beyond documentaries, my interests include contemporary art exhibitions and video artmaking.
